Well the cards were against me the minute I was born into a Caribbean family. Healthy nutrition and small portions were not an option when I was growing up. If you couldn’t eat a loaf of bread with butter for breakfast , there was a problem at the dining room table.
So I was heavy from 8 years old well into my adult years. In my mid 30’s had a mini stroke and the Cardiologist told me if I didn’t lose weight and start a healthy life style I would not live through another stroke and that was surely to happen if my life stays the same. So I got myself a gym membership, hired a trainer and changed my poor eating habits. I lost over 50 lbs and got in great shape. I kept off the weight build lean muscles, learned to run walk marathons and became a certified trainer. I helped many women change their unhealthy lifestyle through a successful boot camp. I even made it in the Miami Herald News Paper. Three years ago I lost my first born at the age of 32. For some reason after that I didn’t any reason to keep taking care of myself and found myself in a depressive stats of mind. I honestly NEVER thought that I could become depressed. So during a 2 year period I packed on close to 50 lbs.
One day i had a physical for my insurance company and they raised my premium because I was Obese by there standards. You know what? They were right. For my height and age I should not weigh more than 115-120. I made the decision that day to NOT be obese, to not be FAT. I asked my husband to take pictures of me so I can have a visual reminder of what obesity looks like for me.
I started walking, i even joined a walking group where i met some wonderful people. My birthday was in 4 days and my husband realized how serious I was, so he got me a Fit-bit as a birthday gift. I walked 2-5 miles every evening in my neighborhood for a few weeks and then I joined a gym. I started lifting weight and other types of cardio. The weight started to come off little by little.
Than I met a with a personal trainer. I knew from experience when you are truly serious about changing your present health for the better you need someone to push you and to also help you with meal plans. I don’t start out to do fitness competitions. My body changed so much once I started working out with Larry that he suggested that I do at least one competition. “Just for fun he said” Larry said... yeah right he obviously did not know me. Once I try something that makes me feel good and it’s something most people can’t commit to doing, I will love and will not stop at one. So I lost over 40 lbs of unwanted fat mainly from my stomach, packed on some lean muscles.
My body transformed into a lean mean muscle machine. I had to get on stage and competed against some 20,30,40 and 50 year olds to show case my new body. I took home 2nd place and instantly qualified to go to a National competition show. So I did 4 more shows including Nationals, kept my lean muscle body tight and decided to help other women again through boot camps, personal training and teach them how healthy eating can be tasty.
